STATEMENT ON THE EXECUTIVE ORDER ON MIDDLE EASTERN REFUGEES, TRAVELERS AND IMMIGRANTS

The Association of Humanistic Rabbis joins with other voices to express its opposition to the Executive Order banning refugees, travelers and immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.

Our tradition reminds us that “we were once strangers in a strange land” and our history teaches that we have been immigrants and refugees to America.  Our compassion and concern for all people is a bedrock principle of Secular Humanistic Judaism.  As leaders in this movement, we condemn this Executive Order as written, as applied, and as understood by its authors as a ban on Muslims seeking to enter this country.

We stand with those who are courageously using every legal, moral and ethical means to overturn it.
